How green Tamil Nadu Mission is different from other massive planting programmes

  • GTM is an umbrella mission which brings all plantation activities taken up in the state under common platform.
  • It covers different land category such as Farm lands, Coastal areas, Govt lands, Private lands, Fallow lands, Degraded Forest, Tank foreshore etc.
  • Urban, semi urban and forest areas the identification of land parcels (unused land having potential of reafforestation) will be done with the help of Remote Sensing and Artificial intelligence
  • GTM employ’s Bottom-up approach in planning, finalisation of targets and planting.Oriented
  • The sanctioning of the nursery and planting estimatesfollows a scientific approach as they are specific to Agroclimatic zones unlike on average basis as was done earlier.
  • It’s a community programme/ peoples programme. NGOs, trusts, and other firms are part of this programme which will give wider publicity and community participation. Under GTM geo tagging of all locations taken up for planting will be done for proper follow up and monitoring. Proper handholding of farmer growers will be done enabling timber market linkage. Carbon credit mechanism and its potential to generate income will be linked to plantations.
